Nottingham University Gliding Club
Welcome to all returning members and to any new or potential members. We aim to make our club as friendly and informative as possible, so here you can find out almost anything you need to know about gliding and our club as a whole. There is also a forum (open to all) for general discussion, and a Mailing List (also open to all) to keep up to date with important events/happenings in the club.
A Word From The President
Welcome to the Nottingham University Gliding Club website. Whether you've never flown before and just want to give gliding a try, or want to get your gliding qualifications, or are already a seasoned pilot, NUGC is a fantastic club to fly with - arguably one of the best in the country. NUGC benefits from flying at one of the cheapest clubs in Britain – £5 a flight! Fly regularly with us and you can expect to be a solo pilot by the time summer rolls around. Our host flying club is RAF Cranwell Gliding Club, a grass airfield situated in the beautiful countryside of Lincolnshire.
So what does membership include? Access to a range of NUGC and Cranwell gliders, and all the necessary equipment to get you flying, as well as your insurance for the year. We also offer free soaring (no hire charge) in both of the university gliders, whereas most clubs will charge per minute of flight time. As is gliding custom, we charge absolutely nothing for instruction.
When not flying, we enjoy a packed social calendar - starting in October with a visit to the Goose Fair, Beer Festival, Alton Towers and of course weekly visits to the pub. It's a great way to get to know your fellow pilots off the airfield. We're a friendly & welcoming bunch, always keen to meet new people and help you progress to going solo and beyond.
On Behalf of the NUGC committee, we look forward to meeting you all throughout the year, be it at a social or the airfield - happy flying!
