Nottingham University Gliding Club
Welcome to all returning members and to any new or potential members. We aim to make our club as friendly and informative as possible, so here you can find out almost anything you need to know about gliding and our club as a whole. There is also a forum (open to all) for general discussion, and a Mailing List (also open to all) to keep up to date with important events/happenings in the club.
If there's anything you'd like to know about or feel you'd like to join the club, then please feel free to email us at info@nugc.net

A Word From The President
Welcome to the Nottingham University Gliding Club. If you're reading this and you've joined the club then I'd like to congratulate you for doing so. As a club we have been going since the 1970's and I've personally seen the club get stronger and stronger every year in the short couple of years that I've been at Nottingham. I've never met a member who has disliked the club or the experience of flying.
At this point I'd also like to welcome you to the world of gliding. Your first flight brings a thrilling mixture of excitement, wonder and awe. I still remember my first flight and my first solo flight. Our club aims to offer the gliding experience to anyone. We are one of the largest and most active university clubs in the country. Anyone can join us whether you've never even heard of gliding before us or you're a seasoned sailplane pilot.
The club has a reasonable fleet; including a two-seater "Grob Twin II Acro" which we use for training pilots who have not yet gone solo and two single-seater gliders, one wooden and one fibreglass. We also have access to RAF Cranwell's fleet meaning that everyone should get a chance to fly if they're out with us on a flying day.
This handbook will give you all the information you need about the club, and will give you some of the basics about gliding and gliders. I thoroughly recommend reading it through before you come out with us for the first time. If you want any more information then you can look at our website or our forum (http://www.nugc.net/forum). You can also talk to any of the committee members including myself personally (as well as other members of the club) at our regular social and flying sign-up in the SU Bar Mooch on Tuesdays at 7.30. We have lots of socials throughout the year and you can find out more from either of our social secretaries (social@nugc.net).
If you can't make the flying sign-up on a Tuesday then you are more than welcome to contact the flying organiser (flyingorganiser@nugc.net).
I'd like to wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to meeting you at Mooch or on the airfield.
