Social
As well as regular flying, NUGC has a very active social side, meeting every week during term time, as well as lots of socials at other times during the week, and joint socials with Cranwell Gliding Club throughout the year. There's plenty to get involved with in the club socially, and this page will tell you about a few of the larger events.
Weekly Signup Social @ Mooch
Every Tuesday, we sign up people to fly for the following weekend, in a joint signup / social at Mooch, the student union bar on campus. This is a great opportunity to meet the club members (both old and new), get yourself on the flying list and find out more about the club if you have any questions.
The social and signup starts at 7:30, just look for the group of people with the NUGC or 'Air Born' clothing - we will normally try and make ourselves obvious!
Later on in the night, we sometimes move on elsewhere, usually to another pub for more drinks or a pub quiz. We will only normally do this when signup has finished, new people aren't arriving, and not for the first few weeks - so don't worry about missing us if you arrive a bit late!
Joint NUGC/CGC Socials
There are lots of socials that we do jointly with Cranwell Gliding Club, ranging from the annual Halloween Party (one of the best socials of the year!) to CGC's AGM & party, as well as impromptu barbeques and socials.
Every day after flying, we will spend some time in the bar at the gliding club, which is a great opportunity to socialise with the Cranwell members and get to know them a bit better, as well as taking advantage of the cheap drinks prices at the bar! Some members will stay over at the airfield on the Saturday night some weekends, and fly both days - there are usually people who will stay in the bar fairly late if there are a few people staying over.
Impromptu Socials
As well as all the club-run socials, there are lots of smaller impromptu socials being organised on the forum throughout the year - trips to the cinema, relocation of our Tuesday socials during holidays, bowling, ice skating, laser quest and others have all been done in the past. If you want to suggest your own idea for a social, please feel free to post in the forum - there are usually some people interested in all sorts of things!
