Sutton Bank 2007, Future Expeditions And Socials

Added on Wed 7th Nov 2007

A lot has been going on with NUGC since the last piece of news. In addition to the regular weekend flying at Cranwell, we have also just got back from our first expedition of the year - a trip up to Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire, allowed some brilliant wave soaring at a time of year when you just don't expect to be up in the air for a long time. Flying in wave is something that is difficult to describe - the lift is incredibly smooth, and you only really realise that you are climbing when you look at the variometer. Flying above the clouds is another one of those kinds of experiences - take a look at the Sutton Bank thread on the forums to see some pictures. The trip was helped by us getting several trips in the pride of Sutton Bank's fleet, the DG1000. This is a beautiful glider, incredibly expensive, and really nice to fly. It also is specially designed to keep your feet warm in November wave-soaring trips!

If you'd like to add this sort of experience to your gliding resumé, then we've arranged several other trips over the year. There is a trip to Denbigh (Wales) coming up in February, a trip to Portmoak (Scotland) over the Easter holidays, and the potential for more.

Also, in more down-to-earth stuff, we have lots of socials coming up (Christmas Meal, Laserquest and Poker Night), so keep reading your email updates to get more info on those!
