Summer 2008
Added on Thu 2nd Oct 2008
Before we get too far into the new term, here is a round-up of what NUGC got up to over the summer. We saw lots of achievements (solos and silver legs) lots of fun and the inter-unis to boot!
First, we must cast our eyes back to 10th May when both Becky and Louise went solo on the same day! Who-ever was first must have held the solo cup for a remarkably short period of time. The cup soon moved on again as on the 6th July Claudia went solo and was seen to be grinning for at least a week afterwards.
At some point during all that Simon snuck off to Wittering (via a remote start at Newark) in the Astir and gained his 50k, thus completing his silver.
A large group headed down to "Amazingstoke" in July for the inter-unis at Lasham and lots of flying went on down there. There were lots of type conversions, Claudia (newly solo) went off soaring for the first time, Alistair got the hang of the Skylark and Chris decided that he does like K13s after an hour or so's soaring at the end of the week. Amongst all that I got my 50k by flying 81km from Lasham to Bicester, arriving in time for a BBQ!
After the inter-unis, James (keen to get into all this cross-country action) also finished his silver by flying 50k from Cranwell to Strubby, which turned out to be completely deserted when he got there. Alistair has done his bronze flying checks and just needs to do the written test before he'll have a bronze badge.
All in all it was a fun and achievement packed summer. For all those new members who have had their first flights or are looking forward to them, you could be named in the news as a new solo pilot by the end of the year!
