Lots Of Flying North Of The Border - Portmoak 2005
Added on Fri 1st Apr 2005
After possibly the longest drive in the world we're back from the trip to Portmoak, and what a stonker of a trip it was!
Thirteen brave NUGC members trekked up to the Scottish Gliding Centre to spend the last week of the Easter Break "Bashing the Bishop". No, not like that, you've got a filthy mind! We were ridge soaring on Bishop Hill.
We had 5 good soaring days out of the 7 and did over 75 hours between us. John converted to the Astir 'NU' and a lot of our Ab-Initios made good progress towards solo.
The social side was as epic as ever, we even hosted a couple of house parties at our cottage. We used our limited supply of water to great effect with a knockout 'boat racing' championship.
For the first time we welcomed Durham University, a thoroughly wonderful bunch who more than made up for the absence of Cambridge.
All in all a fantastic week, thanks in no small part to Irene, Sandra and Steven who restrained themselves even when we sat on the tables.
Now that the weather is getting better I hope to see you all at the ark clamouring to come gliding.
It's going to be a good summer. I can feel it...
