Summary of the academic year of 2008/09
Added on Tue 19th May 2009
Our year of gliding was very successful. Thanks to everyone in the committee who have put so much effort to aiding the club’s organisation. Moreover we have sent 6 people solo this year; Claudia Krehl, Louise Beech, Becky Seyburn, Mark Loach, Daniel Eade, and Lelio Brito. Well done all of you! Also we have some achievements; John Vodden, James Fowkes, Chris Emerson and Devin Gidding got Silver badges, Alistair Green got bronze, as well as many other people obtained bronze/silver legs, and hope everyone have had excellent time with us!
And a brief summary of the event we organised this year:
Goose Fair
The new academic year of gliding started with our fun excursion to Goose Fair (travelling carnival) in Nottingham. Quite a few freshers came along to this with the event being very successful and was followed by pubbing in the city centre.
Halloween Party @ CGC
We had Halloween Party at Cranwell Gliding Club, many members from both CGC and NUGC were dressed up ghosts, witches, vampires etc. Everyone enjoyed getting to know new members from each CGC and NUGC.
Christmas Party @ CGC and NUGC Christmas meal
Traditional Christmas party at CGC, both CGC and NUGC members enjoyed celebrating Christmas together, good meal, drink and a lot of chatting. NUGC Christmas meal was also organised at the Nottingham city.
Sutton Bank Fireworks
Trip up to Sutton bank for the fireworks was successfully organised, about 16 people participated. Everyone enjoyed fireworks and there was a bit of a gliding session too with Yorkshire Gliding Club.
Long Mynd
Traditional New Year cerebration trip to Long mynd, we stayed with Midland gliding club. We had a small flying session on the New Years Eve, James Fowkes and Chris Emerson had converted to K23.
Portmoak
Our biggest trip of the year to Scotland was very successful, Claudia Krehl converted to our single seater Skylark and had 5 hour flight, Alistair Green got his silver 5 hour leg, Lelio Brito got his 2 hour leg, Mark Loach and Louise Beech have got their 30 minutes bronze legs. There was a day trip to Edinburgh and curry night in Perth, various hikes up the ridges with lots of Nintendo Wii and Lego in the evenings.
Socials
Small socials & trips were also organised throughout the year such as Poker night, Wittering Trip, Laserquest and Ice Skating which helped many members get involved and committed to the club
The new elected Committee Members for next academic year 2009/10 are as follows:
